Forgotten in 2025 — Batizovce Settlement

The settlement in Batizovce sits in the shadow of the High Tatras, yet life here feels far removed from the world outside. Makeshift homes built from discarded wood and plastic fight against wind and rain. Children grow up beside piles of broken objects that once belonged to someone else. Smoke rises from rusty chimneys as families try to stay warm in rooms the size of storage sheds.
Walking through this place feels like stepping back centuries. The contrast is brutal: modern Europe thrives only a few minutes away, but here, survival is the only goal. These faces and structures carry stories of endurance, loss, and quiet strength.
This series is not meant to decorate a wall. It’s meant to unsettle, to confront, to remind us that progress is not shared equally — and that entire communities remain unseen, year after year.

Vo Veľkej Lomnici sa búrkové mraky nikdy celkom nerozplynú. Vietor nesie vôňu vlhkej zeme, dymu a prežívania. Domovy poskladané z polámaných dosiek a zhrdzaveného plechu stoja ako tichí svedkovia životov, ktoré sa odohrávajú na úplnom okraji spoločnosti. Každá cestička je vychodená krokmi ľudí, ktorí nemajú kam inam ísť.
Tváre tu rozprávajú príbehy, na ktoré sa nikto nepýta — príbehy studených nocí, tichého hladu a tvrdošijnej nádeje. Deti vyrastajú vo svete blata a plechu a príliš skoro zisťujú, že svet za hranicami ich osady kráča ďalej bez toho, aby na niekoho čakal.
Tieto fotografie nie sú vytvorené na to, aby utrpenie pôsobilo krajšie. Sú zrkadlom nastaveným roku 2025 — pripomienkou, že pokrok je selektívny a celé komunity zostávajú neviditeľné, pokiaľ niekto nepríde, nepozrie sa im priamo do očí a neodmietne odvrátiť zrak.
